Charles Gaspard HAAKEN was born in Venlo (Limbourg) as son of a Dutch négociant. In 1837 he married in Liège Marie Jeanne PLOMDEUR, daughter of a fabricant d’armes. HAAKEN’s occupation was teneur de livres (comptable).

The patent application was examined in La Haye by Dr Simons and was refused. No complete administrative file having been preserved in Luxembourg or La Haye, the grounds for the rejection are not known.
