Georg SIGL (1811 - 1887) [1]

On 25 November 1873 SIGL applied for a patent relating to an invention entitled: (see  N° 150)

‍   Nouveau système de locomotion sur plan incliné ou sur plan horizontal au moyen d’un cable sans fin

It took an unusually long time (almost three years) for the patent to be granted on 9 August 1876. The reasons for this long delay are unknown.

Almost 150 years later Sigl’s concept was put into practice in Luxembourg-city where the Pfaffenthal-Kirchberg funiculaire was inaugurated on  10 December 2017.
