On 1 August 1879 THOMAS filed a demande de brevet de perfectionnement for the patent filed on 29 July 1879 (No 242), which itself was a demande de brevet de perfectionnement of the basic patent filed on 6 May 1879.
The fourth patent application filed by THOMAS carried the title of:
Perfectionnements dans la fabrication de l’acier et du fer fondu
The 29 July 1879 and 1 August 1879 applications were merged and a single patent issued on 28 September 1880 under the 1880 Patent Law. [3]
