148 - Victor Aloyse BÉNARD & Jean-François BOQUET

BOQUET was a fabricant de tourbes and BÉNARD his contre-maître d’usine, they both resided in Paris.

On 26 September 1873, Charles Alphonse MUNCHEN, their representative, filed an application for a brevet d’invention et de perfectionnement under the title of:

Appareils pour la transformation de la tourbe en houille végétale

The Government asked the Chambre de commerce on 2 October 1873 to examine the application.

Two years later, on 13 October 1875, the Conseiller du Gouvernement wrote to the Chambre de commerce:

Veuillez avoir l'obligeance de me renvoyer sans retard ultérieur, avec votre avis, la demande en obtention d'un brevet d'invention et de perfectionnement des sieurs Boquet et Bénard de Paris, que je vous ai communiquée par dépêche du 2 octobre 1873.

The administrative file kept in the National Archives gives no further indication on the procedure and/or the destiny of the application. Applicants presumably withdrew their application.

BÉNARD & BOQUET had obtained a patent in France on 19 October 1869 for « Outillage pour la transformation de la tourbe en houille végétale pour chauffage de machines ». [1] This patent probably relates to the same invention as the one covered by the Luxembourg patent application, although no reference was made to this earlier French patent in the Luxembourg application.

The inventors and business partners BÉNARD & BOQUET also obtained a patent in Prussia on 27 October 1873 for a « Torfpresse », suggesting that it is also a patent corresponding to the one filed in France. 

A similar patent was granted in Bavaria on 24 November 1873 under the title of « Apparat zur Umformung des Torfes in vegetabilische Kohle ».

BÉNARD & BOQUET created a company by the name of « Compagnie générale d’exploitation des tourbes en France » and in 1875 obtained an additional patent in France for a « Système d’appareil dragueur, broyeur, élévateur, pour le travail de la tourbe ». [2]

In 1877 the company created by BÉNARD & BOQUET was dissolved.
