33 - Mathias HAAG (1791 - ) [1]

HAAG was an avocat in Trier.

On 4 January 1849 he filed an application for a brevet d’importation.[2] He filed an extensive 4 page description of his invention (in old German handwriting) together with a drawing under the title:

Under the new procedure, whereby the Chambre de commerce was going to act as examination authority for patent applications, an arrêté royal had appointed as examiners François Reuter, professeur à l’Athénée and François Eydt, architecte de la Ville de Luxembourg.

However, a special committee of the Chambre de commerce, including the appointed experts, appears to have acted as examination committee since its report, issued on 1 September 1849, indicates that the committee as a whole was immediately convinced of the merits of HAAG's invention:

The report was signed by the committee members, where the names of the following influential people appear:

Lamock, Reuter, Fischer, Mergen, Eydt, Krewinckel, Kuborn, _____

The patent was thus granted on 8 October 1849.
